Reviews of Warren Animal Hospital

Do not take your animal here!!

My Fiancee and I adopted a bunny from the City of Los Angeles Animal Services North Central Shelter on Jan 31.We had a horrible time with this hospital, as detailed below.

As instructed, We picked up the rabbit on Tuesday, Feb 3rd from the Warren Animal Hospital at 2417 Riverside Dr, Los Angeles. We received a certificate of castration, signed by the vet Arturo Martin, which indicated that the rabbit had been neutered on Feb 2 and was male.We were instructed by the vet, Arturo Martin, not to feed or give water to the rabbit for one day. This was incorrect, because you are not supposed to deprive a rabbit of food or water prior or after surgery. Afterwards, he told us that it would be ok to feed the rabbit when we got him home, since they had not fed it since it arrived at the vet on monday. We picked up this rabbit Tuesday evening, which meant that this rabbit had not eaten for 1.5 days!

The vet recommended that we purchase an antibiotic, amoxicillin, to give her 1 ML twice a day for 10 days. We only fed our rabbit one dose, but we later learned that amoxicillin is not recommended for rabbits, and can even be fatal.

I remember very directly asking the vet if we needed to return to remove any stitches, or if the stitches were dissolvable. He said that for neutering, it was just an incision and there were no stitches. Keep in mind, we were also given a certificate of castration that confirmed that the rabbit had been neutered in writing. We took our rabbit to our trusted vet office, Torrance harbor animal hospital, where he was seen by Dr. Summer Wetzel. She then confirmed to us that our rabbit, which the vet had confirmed to be a boy, was indeed a girl. Furthermore, she had METAL sutures that they never told us about! The hospital had told us that there was no need for a follow up visit; if we had not taken the rabbit to another vet, these metal sutures would have been left in our rabbit, due to the shelter hospital's instruction, for much longer!

We feel that this appalling treatment is unacceptable and is a deeply inhumane way to treat our animal companions. For first time rabbit adopters, this vet can be very misleading, and also endanger the animal's well being. We were fortunate to be happy parents to other bunnies, but even we made mistakes due to his ill advice. On top of it, the cost of further check ups to another vet was significant, in addition to the adoption fee that the shelter charged. Most importantly, we are concerned about other animals from this shelter that are being treated by this Warren Animal Hospital. We also volunteer at an animal shelter, and I can tell you that this vet had no compassion or care for our rabbit. His attitude and his way of handling our rabbit gave us the impression that he did not care for her well being. Please, do not take your animal to this hospital!
